Pitifully Funny

I'm definitely not having the time of my life lately. My boyfriend broke up with me, immigration doesn't want me in this country and I can barely pay the rent.
So yesterday I decided to take a little step towards my bright future life and get rid of two shirts my ex boyfriend left me to donate to Goodwill. Okay well, I thought I would keep them and wear them at night so I would feel closer to him, but they don't look very good on me and they don't smell like him anymore since he washed them before giving them to me. In oder to smell him on them I should buy his perfume and spray it on the shirts, but that would be way too expensive, remember, I can barely pay the rent.
5pm and I get to Goodwill, BeeGees are playing on the radio, I ask the girl at the desk where I can donate and she says: "leave them here", then she turns to the next customer, ignoring me. And I would like to tell her: yes, fine, but you see, these are very special shirts, my wonderful boyfriend who left me two months ago used to wear them, I can't just leave them here, unattended. I need to make sure someone will take care of them, hang them properly, treat them in a special way, because, you see, these are the last things I have of him, these are my link to the past, my love and memories are in this bag and I really can't let them go without a proper goodbye. Then I realize this lady would think I'm crazy, so I glance at the bag, I caress softly the shirts one last time and I walk away, headed to the women department because, since I'm broke and I'm already there, I might find some good bargain.
I browse and I find a very cute red top for $3.99 (my roommate would approve) and a cool black shirt that would look great with leggings and boots. The music in this store is kind of cool, 70s and 80s, totally me.
I check the dresses but I don't find anything nice (and since I'm not going out anymore it's useless to buy a dress anyway). I proceed with my two items to the fitting room, I have to wait. The sign says "3 items per customer only" but the woman inside is trying the entire store. I wait... and wait... and I'm still thinking of my ex shirts and my past relationship, when the radio starts playing "Rock Steady" by The Whispers and my heart stops. That's one of his favorite songs, he met the band and hanged out with them, he used to tell me stories about the 80s and the music industry. I suddenly feel the tears in my eyes but I can't leave my place, there's an Asian lady behind me with way more than 3 items and I would have to wait a long time if she takes my turn. I swing slightly at the rhythm of the music 'cos it's a very cool song, but it's getting hard to fight the tears and that fucking woman in the fitting room doesn't come out. The Asian behind me wouldn't understand if I told her: can you just hold my place please? I need to get out for a minute, breathe some fresh air and wait until this song is over. So I do the only thing I can do to save my dignity. I wear my sunglasses and let a couple of tears fall on my cheek, until that awful woman inside the fitting room finally comes out. I quickly enter, hang my 2 items (because I'm a good girl and I follow the rules), I take off my sunglasses, lean on the dirty wooden panel of the fitting room and cry. Not much. Just a little because when I think about the fact I'm crying at Goodwill listening to Rock Steady, well... that's kind of funny.
